The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (MJIB) and the Czech Republic’s National Organized Crime Agency (Národní Centrálou proti Organizovanému Zločinu, NCOZ) signed a Declaration of Intent to upgrade judicial cooperation on September 8th, 2023. MJIB’s Director General Chun-Li Wang hosted the signing ceremony and signed the Declaration of Intent with NCOZ Director Jiří Mazánek on behalf of MJIB. Representatives from the International Operations Division, Anti-Money Laundering Division, Economic Crime Prevention Division, and Information & Communication Security Division of MJIB and the NCOZ delegation were all in attendance at the ceremony.

Director General Wang stated that NCOZ is an important law enforcement agency in the Czech Republic and it has similar missions as the MJIB. It has achieved outstanding performance in investigating organized crime, major economic crimes, money laundering, and cyber crimes, and has received wide acclaim from the government and people of the Czech Republic. NCOZ and MJIB held video conference meetings on information security and anti-money laundering during the pandemic and still engages in cross-border fraud investigation and mutual cooperation with excellent results.

In response to the advancement of internet technologies and the rise of cross-border criminal activities, MJIB is focusing on international cooperation and works with law enforcement agencies of foreign countries to strengthen the crackdown on illegal activities. MJIB is continuously building a global crime prevention network with countries who share similar beliefs. NCOZ Director Jiří Mazánek also stated at the signing ceremony that crime investigation is a unique task with its own challenges. As criminal activities spread across borders in the era of globalization, law enforcement agencies must make quick adjustments in response to changes in the environment. Mutual support and understanding form the solid foundations for facilitating cross-border cooperation between law enforcement agencies. Common values are more important than geographical distance, culture, or history, and collaboration between law enforcement agencies is the best tool for combating crimes.

The NCOZ delegation led by Director Jiří Mazánek is the highest-ranking European delegation invited by MJIB to visit Taiwan in recent years. In addition to signing the Declaration of Intent with Director General Wang, Director Mazánek also attended the Taiwan Strait Forum and Criminal Investigation Seminar hosted by the two Deputy Director Generals of MJIB. They discussed cross-strait relations, anti-money laundering, economic crime prevention, and cyber security. The Director General emphasized that the Declaration of Intent signed by MJIB and NCOZ is an important milestone in the alliance between Taiwan and the Czech Republic. The MJIB will continue to enhance the criminal investigation capacity and expand engagements with the international community to consolidate comprehensive partnerships and strive to eliminate cross-border criminal activities.
